Metro Area tonight @ Cutloose!

Something really very cool is happening in Manchester tonight. The guys at Cutloose have managed to persuade New York disco dons, Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani, aka Metro Area to come out and play some of their favourite bits of black plastic for the delectation of punters at Spektrum (the new-ish, modish club above Sankey's). For those of you familiar with MA's output, especially their recent, amazing Fabric mix, this is very exciting news indeed.

Metro Area's Fabric 43 is one hell of a mix, seamlessly blending disco, electro, boogie, house and the odd pop oddity (Heaven 17's 'Penthouse And Pavement'! Devo's 'Freedom Of Choice'!) in a showstopping, yet effortless manner. In fact, it kind of acts as an antithesis to their recorded output, which is generally more genteel, yet no less glorious.
Anyways, in case you haven't heard that, or you're just turking for more Metro Area, you can stream a mini-mix, courtesy of Fairtilizer below.
If you're in the area though, you should pop down to Spektrum on Radium Street tonight for all the disco thrills you can handle and then some.

Clear thy schedule!

A couple of dates for the old diary this week. First of all, this weekend, Platt Fields Park (Platt Lane, off Wilmslow Road, just after all the curry houses) plays host to the Summer In The Park Food & Drink Festival. Food & Drink?! On a music blog?!!! Pray tell! Well, there is going to be quite a lot of music involved too from leading local lights such as I Am Kloot, Mr Scruff, Liam Frost, Aidan Smith, The Earlies, Josephine Oniyama and so on.
Anyway, jonthebeef and myself are DJing there between 4 and 6pm on the Saturday so come down and show your support while we play music to eat and drink to, ie. disco and Balearic-type stuff. Sweet!
In the meantime, check out the website to find out more. Hopefully we'll see you there.

Before all that though, this Thursday (10th, tomorrow), Shoplifters is on at The Bay Horse. That's Grammar (laptop, hands-in-the-air stance), Jon Claude (CDJs, too many e-numbers) and Sapnarella (girl, actual, proper vinyl DJ, with Technics and everything, showing up the fellas) playing "Remixes, Covers and Bastard Pop" in the lovely surroundings of the best pub in Manchester city centre.
Everything you will hear will be some kind of remix, edit, bootleg, cover and whatnot, hence the name, so let the finest 'lifters in Manchester give you a potted history of pop music's illegitimate offspring. Just check your wallets on the way out.

Get Down Saturday Night

What are you doing tomorrow night? If you say anything other than "I'm going to Get Girl. Kill Baddies. Save Planet. at the Night & Day Cafe in Manchester", then I'm cutting you off.

I kid, but seriously, you all should come down, because Grammar & Pasta Paul will be rinsing the plates until the early hours, alongside guest DJ Selina (from Invest In Property) and live sets from The Delta Fiasco and Deluka. I'll be there, generally acting the goat and dancing like an epileptic gibbon, so you know that's going to be fun.

Anyway, if you email the good people from Get Girl at ggkbsp@googlemail.com, you can get in for three nicker! Bargain!

See you in the speakers.
